Our First Home

Our first home is a moderate bungalow with approx 1468 square feet of living space. It is being constructed in Sackville, NB. Although building a home can seem overwhelming, it really is a rewarding and exciting experience. The purpose of this website is to both help inform those of you who are thinking of building and to inform our friends and family on progress. A special thanks to Kevin Minor (Acadia Concrete Forms Ltd.) for orchestrating this project.

I will be taking a series of pictures from this telephone pole. I know that these things go up quickly...we will see... Posted by Picasa

I crawled down into the basement to do a little closer inspection...It looks good... It was windy today, so the concrete guys told me that this wind was not good. The wind dries the top layer to quickly and cracks can form. Posted by Picasa

The floor was poured today! They plan to start framing the house tomorrow.  Posted by Picasa

At the top of the picture is the rough in for the basement bathroom. Because the septic is an abive ground one, if I want to put a bathroom in the basement, I need to have a pump. At the bottom of the picture is the holding tank for the waste water. Posted by Picasa

They levelled out the gravel and dug a small trench for the the load bearing beam. Posted by Picasa

The well is finally drilled andt they are filling in the trenchs to the well. We had to change the point at which the water line came into the house.  Posted by Picasa

The gravel is all levelled off, ready for a floor. Posted by Picasa

Last friday they waterproofed the foundation and poured the last pillar (the one with all the supports) Apparently, the sona tube busted at the bottom the day they poured the rest of them. Posted by Picasa

Well they took the forms off and put a chalk line for the foundation coating Posted by Picasa

Its going to take a few of these trucks to complete the wall. Because of the weight restrictions on the road, this 10 yard truck can only carry 8 yards. Posted by Picasa

Sure beats the old fashion way. Posted by Picasa

Check this thing out. This pump truck can extend its arm over 100 feet... Posted by Picasa

It is pretty neat, this will be a full 8' wall. Posted by Picasa

The forms are up and it is ready for the concrete. They worked all day (until 3) getting this thing set up, and at around 4...Lefarge showed up... Posted by Picasa

The footing...in all its glory. Posted by Picasa

As you can see, more gravel was brought in to cover the drain tile and form the base for the floor. There was a really heavy rain just before I took these pictures so disregard the water. Posted by Picasa
